How to Add Clear Services to Your Google Business Profile
Turn your real service list into useful profile entries with clear scope, accurate descriptions, and a repeatable review process.

A service list should answer a customer's practical question: “Can this business help with my problem?” It should not read like a collection of search phrases. Start from the work your team accepts and the language customers use when they call.
Separate categories from individual services
A category describes the business; a service describes a job it performs. A plumbing company might offer drain cleaning, leak repair, and water-heater installation. Repeating “plumber near me” under several city names does not explain those jobs.
Google's services editor lets eligible businesses select suggested services and, where supported, add custom services, descriptions, and prices. Available options vary. Use the fields actually offered in your profile instead of forcing a service into an unrelated category. Google's services documentation.
Create a working inventory
Ask the office for the ten most common accepted job types, then check them with the person responsible for fulfillment. Mark services you no longer provide, subcontracted work that needs qualification, and services with important restrictions. This internal inventory is more useful than copying a competitor's list.
For each entry, prepare a plain name and a short explanation. An illustrative description could be: “Diagnosis and repair of accessible residential pipe leaks. The technician confirms the repair approach after inspection.” It explains scope without inventing a fixed outcome, same-day availability, or a universal price.
Write descriptions that prevent wrong-fit calls
Include the customer problem, the work offered, and one material limitation when needed. Do not add credentials you cannot verify or imply that inspection automatically includes repair. If pricing varies by diagnosis or materials, do not enter an artificially low number just to attract clicks. Keep quotes consistent with the actual pricing process.
An office should be able to read an entry and use it to answer a call. If the description needs a long verbal correction, rewrite it before uploading.
Add, save, and inspect
1. Open the correct profile and find Edit services. 2. Select relevant suggested entries first. 3. Add an appropriate custom service only when needed and available. 4. Enter accurate descriptions and prices only where useful. 5. Save and review the public display after processing. 6. Compare the service list with the corresponding website pages and call script.
Keep a dated copy so another editor can see what changed. Review it after a new service launch, a staffing change, or an owner decision to stop accepting a type of work.
Frequently asked questions
### Should every service include a city name? Use names that clearly identify the service. Explain genuine coverage in the appropriate profile and website sections rather than repeating locations in every entry.
### Will adding services guarantee higher rankings? No. The immediate purpose is accuracy and customer understanding. Do not turn profile completeness into a ranking guarantee.
### What is the smallest useful first step? Rewrite three entries that currently cause confusion, have the operations lead approve them, and verify that they match the website.
