An unanswered call on a holiday often starts with an inaccurate promise: the profile said the business was open. A useful holiday-hours process connects the owner, dispatch team, website, and Google listing before the date arrives.

Build a location-specific schedule

Ask each location to confirm the date, opening time, closing time, and whether it is closed all day. Also record what “open” means. A website accepting requests overnight does not mean a crew can provide service at any hour. Do not use a continuously available form as the sole reason to list a business as open 24 hours.

For a hypothetical repair company, the office might close at noon while an emergency team remains available by phone. The public information needs to describe the real service arrangement clearly. Avoid copying one branch's holiday decision to every branch without confirmation.

Use the correct hours setting

Google provides Special hours for short exceptions to the regular schedule. Its guidance distinguishes those exceptions from service-specific More hours and longer temporary closures. Use the official rules for the length and type of closure; do not overwrite the normal weekly schedule simply to handle one holiday. Google's Special hours guidance.

In the profile, open Edit profile, choose Hours, and edit Special hours. Select the date and mark it closed or enter the confirmed opening intervals. Save and inspect the result. Interface labels can differ across devices, so identify the field by its purpose rather than relying on a particular icon.

Check the whole customer journey

Keep a simple internal record: location, date, approved schedule, person approving, date edited, and public check completed. This is especially helpful when an office manager and an agency both maintain the profile.

  • Does Search show the intended date and hours?
  • Does Maps show the same business location?
  • Does the contact page describe the correct availability?
  • Does the phone greeting explain any emergency arrangement?
  • Can the booking form accept only appointments the team can fulfill?

Run a short rehearsal

Before the holiday, have someone outside the editing team look up the business on a phone. Ask them when they would expect a response and whether they would drive to the location. If their answer differs from the operating plan, improve the information. After the holiday, confirm that the regular schedule is still correct.

Frequently asked questions

### Should I confirm a holiday if the hours stay normal? Google recommends confirming holiday hours even when unchanged. It reduces uncertainty about whether the displayed schedule was reviewed.

### Does changing hours guarantee a verification request? Do not promise either outcome. Keep changes truthful and respond to any requirements shown in the profile.

### Who should own this task? Choose one person to collect operational approval and one person to verify the public result. They can be the same person, but the verification step should not be skipped.
