Audit Your Business Name, Address, and Phone Listings
Find material contact errors across your website and listings, prioritize corrections, and document ownership without chasing cosmetic differences.

A contact-information audit should prevent customers from calling the wrong number or visiting the wrong place. The priority is material accuracy. Different punctuation in an otherwise correct address is not the same problem as a disconnected phone or a closed branch shown as active.
Establish the approved record
Ask the owner to confirm the real-world business name, public address policy, main contact number, website, and location-specific details. Record the date and approver. For a service-area business, the correct public record may omit a street address; consistency does not mean exposing a private operating address everywhere.
Use the actual business identity rather than adding services or cities to the name. Google requires profile information to represent the business accurately. Business Profile editing guidance.
Inventory the places customers use
Start with the website contact page, location pages, Google profile, and the major listings the business already uses. Add relevant industry or local references when you find them. Record the listing URL, displayed name, phone, address treatment, website destination, access owner, and issue.
Do not buy a large directory package before identifying what is actually wrong. A smaller set of important corrections can be more practical than creating dozens of new accounts nobody will maintain.
Prioritize by customer impact
Fix disconnected or misrouted numbers, wrong businesses, inaccurate public addresses, and links to unrelated pages first. Then resolve old names, outdated branch details, and confusing duplicates through the platform's proper process. Treat minor formatting differences as lower priority when the meaning remains correct.
For a hypothetical company that recently moved, check the old location page, driving directions, email footer links, and directories that still invite visits to the previous premises. Do not limit the review to one profile field.
Submit and verify corrections
Use an authorized account or the platform's legitimate correction method. Save the submitted value, date, and status. A submitted edit is not necessarily a published correction, so return to inspect what customers see.
Where a listing is controlled by a former vendor, request the appropriate access instead of creating another listing immediately. If a tracking phone number is used, have the responsible measurement owner confirm routing and the reason for the setup before replacing it.
Frequently asked questions
### Must every address be formatted identically? Prioritize accurate meaning and platform requirements. A suite number that is missing may matter; a harmless abbreviation is a different level of issue.
### Should I publish my home address for consistency? No. Apply the correct privacy and eligibility rules for the business and platform.
### How do I keep the audit useful? Maintain a short change log and review it after moves, phone changes, rebranding, and branch openings or closures. Assign each listing an owner so the next update does not start from zero.
