Questions That Make a Pest Control Plan Clearer
Ask about identification, treatment areas, preparation, follow-up and the limits of any service guarantee.

Begin with the pest and the evidence
Tell the company what you have seen and where. Ask how it will identify the pest and determine the extent of the problem. Similar-looking symptoms can require different responses, so do not compare proposals that assume different pests or affected areas.
EPA recommends considering competency and value, not cost alone, when selecting a pest-control service. Ask about the company's applicable licensing and who will supervise or perform the work.
Understand the proposed treatment
Get the provider's preparation and re-entry instructions in writing and follow the product-specific directions it supplies. Ask questions before the appointment if anything is unclear.
- What pest and areas does this plan cover?
- Why is this approach recommended for this property?
- What preparation must the household complete?
- What precautions apply to occupants, pets and belongings?
- When can treated spaces be used again?
- What follow-up visits or observations are included?
Separate a visit from an ongoing plan
An initial treatment, recurring monitoring and repairs that limit pest entry may be separate services. Ask whether exclusion work, moisture issues or structural repairs are part of the proposal or need another professional.
Read any service guarantee carefully: which pests are covered, how long it applies, what counts as a callback and whether additional visits cost extra.
Keep an observation record
After service, note sightings with dates and locations without disturbing treated areas. Share the record through the company's recommended follow-up channel. Ask when improvement should be reassessed and what would trigger another inspection.
Use that documented plan to compare providers and evaluate follow-up, rather than treating a broad promise to eliminate pests as a complete scope.
