Start with the home you actually use

Make a room list and identify priorities. A home office used every day may matter more than an untouched guest room. Tell the cleaning company about pets, delicate finishes and areas that should not be entered.

Describe the current condition honestly. The first visit may need a different scope from later maintenance visits. Ask the company to distinguish an initial deep clean from its recurring service.

Turn “clean the kitchen” into clear tasks

Confirm whether the visit includes counters, appliance exteriors, the sink, floors and trash. Ask separately about oven interiors, inside cabinets and dishes. Use the same approach for bathrooms, bedrooms and living spaces.

Agree on product preferences and surface-care instructions directly with the company. Avoid assuming that a product described as natural is suitable for every material.

  • Which surfaces are cleaned every visit?
  • Which tasks rotate through the month?
  • What is an extra service and how is it priced?
  • Who supplies products and equipment?
  • What preparation is expected from the household?

Plan access and schedule changes

Choose a secure way to provide access and a contact for questions. Keep alarm codes and keys out of public booking notes. Ask what happens when the household or cleaning team needs to reschedule and how skipped visits affect the next service.

Review the first visit together

Walk through the agreed rooms or send specific feedback afterward. “The shelf above the sink was missed” is easier to act on than “it wasn't thorough.” Document agreed adjustments to the checklist.

After two or three visits, review whether the frequency and priorities fit your household. A clear scope can evolve without making every visit a fresh negotiation.
